Top 10 BEST Movies of 2017
2017 was a great year, not just for me, but for movies as well. A ton of huge movies came out this year. Some were better than others, of course, and yes there were a lot of terrible movies that also came out this year. But today I’m talking about the good movies. Now keep in mind this is not an official list, and these may not be the most perfect movies of 2017. I’m not the academy where all I like is deep drama films based on true stories. These are just the movies I had the most fun with.
#10: War For The Planet Of The Apes: This film divided some fans, mainly because of the title, since there’s really no war in it except the battle at the end. The movie is more a psychological war. It’s about these two groups of people, Ceasar and his apes and the humans. And how long this war has been going on. Because these movies are very far apart from one another. Also the technical mastery from Matt Reeves is incredible. This movie didn’t do so well at the box office unfortunately, so if you haven’t seen this movie, definitely check it out. It might just be my favorite of the three apes films.
#9: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: The MCU keeps knocking it out of the park with all of their films. I love almost every MCU movie despite a few exceptions. While Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 may not have improved on it’s original and it still has a few flaws here and there. It’s still a darn good MCU film, and is probably Marvel’s funniest movie to date, I’ll have to think about that though. And while this movie is filled with jokes there are also some very sad moments as well. Which make for an extremely entertaining Marvel movie.
#8: Get Out: Who knew what to expect with Get Out? Jordan Peele was writing and directing it. That’s all we really knew. Now this movie doesn’t really have a lot of big jump scares every five minutes to keep your blood pumping, and Get Out did not need that. Because the whole time I felt on edge and intrigued. There are so many questions that are to be asked throughout the movie. And as the movie goes along its deeper, darker and more disturbing until the big reveal. Which I will of course not spoil for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
#7: The Lego Batman Movie: Batman is one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. And making a movie completely making fun of not just Batman but other superheroes, and it’s all from my favorite kind of toy, Legos! Can it get any better? No, because the Lego Batman Movie is absolutely hilarious and amazing almost every way. Now I could’ve easily put this at my number one, but I didn’t because, well, Batman’s not my favorite superhero. Someone else is. Wink wink! Also Batman’s not as nostalgic to me, as my number 6 is.
#6: Cars 3: Here’s where the controversial picks come in. If you don’t already know, Cars is my favorite Pixar movie and one of my all time favorite movie of all time. So of course this movie was my most anticipated movie of 2017. And while this Cars 3 might not have been this direction changing shift, that the marketing made all of us think that it was going to be. But still, this movie was extremely nostalgic for me, seeing radiator springs again and all those other characters that were pushed to the side in Cars 2, especially Lightning Mcqueen back with more screen time. In the end this was a satisfying third installment the Cars franchise and I hope Pixar makes more of these because I’ve already written 95 letters to Pixar asking them for a Cars 4.
#5: Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle: I was not expecting much with Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. And I was blown away. This is one of the best comedies of the year, with great performances from everyone especially Jack Black. And you never feel bored, there’s never a moment where you feel like you want to go to the bathroom or something like that. You’re always entertained by everything. From the action to the comedy, everything works.
#4: Logan: I have never been a fan of the X Men films, They’ve all been just okay movies. Except for X Men Origins Wolverine, which is without a doubt my least favorite superhero movie of all time. But I’m not here to talk about that. I’m here to talk about the best X Men movie of all time: Logan. Logan floored me; this is one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. Hugh Jackman gives his best performance of his entire career, and I could not have been happier and more satisfied with Logan.
#3: Star Wars: The Last Jedi: This will probably cause a lot of people to hate me. It’s okay. Fans are divided on The Last Jedi. Some think it’s a masterpiece, some think its the worst movie ever made. I think The Last Jedi is a masterpiece. Does it have some scenes that felt out of place yes. But when you put those scenes aside, this movie is absolutely fantastic. From the amazing performances by Mark Hamill, and Daisy Ridley. To the incredible imagery. The Last Jedi is phenomenal.
Now I really struggled with these last two movies. I thought about it for weeks and weeks, but I still couldn’t come to a consensus to which one was better. So I thought for a bit longer. I still couldn’t figure it out. So I thought for longer. You get the idea. I’ve figured it out. Here we go.
#2: Blade Runner 2049: People don’t make movies like this anymore. From the visuals to the incredibly stunning locations that the characters go to. People will most likely not like this movie and find it boring. For me, I was never bored throughout the entire movie. I don’t see how I can be bored if so many stunning visuals and imagery is constantly on screen.
#1: Spiderman Homecoming: Spiderman is my all time favorite superhero. And for so many years I’ve never felt Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield completely captured the character of Spiderman. But now that Tom Holland is now Spiderman, he is Spiderman. This is my favorite Spiderman movie of all time and also my favorite MCU movie of all time. I couldn’t find a single flaw with this movie. And if you can’t find any flaws with a movie. Then shouldn’t that movie deserve to be your number one?
