CC Winter Sports Review from December

The Winter Sports season is well and fully underway with about a third of the season already done with. We have had a lot of sporting events over the last month so let’s visit some of them.

Boys’ Hockey:

Current record: 3-5

After a slow start and a tough 4-3 loss at the Warriors for Warriors game in Mid December, the boys’ hockey team has now reeled off two consecutive wins and plays again this week against Boston Latin. This week is make or break for the hockey team, as if they win both games, they can stretch their hot streak to four games and, more importantly, be on track for securing a playoff spot at 5-5.

Boys’ Basketball:

Current record: 0-3

The CCHS boys’ basketball team has started slow but has steadily improved every game. They lost their first game to Cambridge by 32, their second game to Boston Latin by 12, and their third game to Southeastern by 7. They are a young team but will need to learn on the fly in order to get a win. They play LS on Tuesday and Waltham on Friday this week. Their schedule is backloaded, which has given the team time to gel and become a cohesive unit as they have 16 games over the final two-thirds of the season.

Girls’ Basketball:

Current record: 2-4

The girls’ basketball team has shown improvement already, matching their win total from the last two seasons combined. They are currently in good form, having won 2 out of the last 3 games. This team has an interesting mix of players, as they have experience in Catherine Kingman among others coupled with a starting line-up featuring two freshmen that are learning on the fly. Success is expected for the rest of the year but they will also be well set up for the future because of their youth.
